Strawberries Fared Well

Last night temperatures didn’t drop as far as some forecasts had predicted.

After midnight a north wind and cloud cover moved in and kept temperatures in the Plant City/Dover area above the freezing mark. The lowest temperature reported in the area was 36 degrees. Strawberry growers did not have to turn water on their plants. Water tables are up due to recent heavy rains. Harvesting crews were in full force at 7 AM this morning picking for the Valentine holiday. Growers are thankful to be harvesting dry fruit since overnight irrigation was not necessary, however rains are anticipated for tomorrow. This upcoming weekend is typically the peak of the strawberry harvesting season. Highs today in the Plant City/Dover area are expected to reach the mid-to-upper 50’s.
