Timing the Southern Rainmaker

Rain will drench the Gulf Coast today and spread through the Southeast over the next few days.

Into tonight, the heaviest rain will target a swath from eastern Louisiana into the Florida Panhandle and southwestern Georgia.

Friday, flooding rainfall will shift eastward, with torrents of rain soaking an area from Florida into South Carolina.

Snow will spread into the southern Appalachians and mid-Atlantic as the storm moves northward along the East Coast early this weekend.

Additional rainfall in these storm-weary areas could lead to flooding problems.

New Orleans has already had over four times the city's normal rainfall for the month of December, and could have another 2 to 3 inches pour down through Friday.
