A sticky, muggy and warm air mass will stagnate in the Southeast today. Temperatures will soar into the 90s in many areas. With dewpoints near or above 70, this will make for a sweltering, uncomfortable air mass.A few areas of soaking thunderstorms will cool the atmosphere off in spots along the Gulf Coast and across Florida. For example, Pensacola, Fla., went from 101 degrees at 5 p.m. to 81 degrees at 5:43 p.m. thanks to a heavy, drenching downpour from a thunderstorm.
